Mariah Sings in the New Year in Times Square

Continuing her comeback that already includes last Thursday’s eight Grammy nominations, Mariah Carey will perform live from Times Square on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – the first time in the 34-year history of the year-end special that a singer has performed from Times Square, the network said.

The songbird will join cohosts Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest as the final minutes of 2005 are counted down and the famed ball drop begins. For Clark, 76, this year’s gig represents his first TV appearance since suffering a stroke in early 2004.

Hilary Duff, who also intends to perform, will emcee the West Coast portions of the show, introducing artists including The Bangles, Chris Brown, Sean Paul, The Pussycat Dolls, Sugarland, 3 Doors Down and 311, ABC also announced. - People

Jessica Alba can be _itchy

(The Alba Area)

The gorgeous actress turned up with an entourage and was quickly ushered inside — but when head promoter Gordon Nicol asked if she would pose for a photo, Alba turned him down flat. When Nicol pointed out that celebs like Madonna, Hilary Duff and Selma Blair had all posed, Alba supposedly snapped, “I don’t care!” and walked away. At that point, one of Alba’s entourage told Nicol, “She’s a bitch — sorry.” - New York Post Page Six

Did I mention, I love bitches….the more bitchy the better!

Bloggers pained by new carpal tunnel report

New research from Harvard Medical School about the cause of carpal tunnel syndrome runs totally counter to common assumptions, and as a result is being heavily scrutinized in the blogosphere.

The study found that that carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by the compression of the median nerve in the wrist, which may occur because of heredity, body weight, fracture, or even pregnancy–but not computer use, according to a press release. Heavy computer use–up to seven hours a day–does not increase risk for carpal tunnel syndrome, although it can lead to a different disorder known as repetitive stress injury, the study says.

That’s, by no means, saying that all our workplace ergonomics efforts have been done in vain, just that we need to be careful not to lump carpal tunnel and RSI together as one. - CNET News
