Who the hell is Henry Owens?
The 27-year-old was in the middle of a dominant season as Binghamton’s closer. In 23 appearances spanning 25 innings, Owens was 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA and 11 saves, having struck out 51 batters. He had allowed as many hits as walks all year (eight).
“[Pelfrey] seemed excited, but you could tell he was probably expecting [the call] at some point,” Owens said via cell phone from the New Jersey Turnpike, as he traveled to join the Mets. “It was obviously very welcome news for both of us, but I think I had a little more excitable reaction.
“I was on the bus from Bowie [Md.] to Trenton [N.J.], and Juan Samuel, our manager, called me up to the front of the bus. We’d already found out the news about Pelfrey, and walking up there, I thought it might be my time, too. Sure enough, it was.” - MLB
After a strikeout, he should dance like his brother Terrell Owens!
