Inside the Mind of JJ Abrams

“Jeffrey Jacob Abrams, known as JJ to fans, is a tech fiend with story and filmmaking in his blood. The son of two producers, Abrams directed one of his first special-effects films at age 11 — a monster movie shot with friends and a Super-8 camera. Abrams inserted his own special-effects monster by hand, frame by frame.
Since then he’s become a multi-hyphenate producer-writer-director-composer. His most popular creations include the TV shows Felicity, Alias and Lost. He made his feature film directorial debut with Mission: Impossible III and is set to direct the next Star Trek film — addressing the early days when James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock first met at the Starfleet Academy. There’s also talk that he’ll adapt Stephen King’s seven-book Dark Tower series for film and TV.
Reporter Kim Zetter sits down with Abrams at TED to learn his plans for saving the Star Trek franchise and tells us why you should listen to voices in the car.”
