Some interesting notes:
Highest TV ratings for a tennis match in over 10 years.
If Federer tied it in the 5th set 8-8 play would have been suspended because of darkness until Monday.
Nadal won his first Wimbledon title by beating Federer 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5), 6–7(8), 9–7, in the longest Wimbledon final in history, playing for 4 hours and 48 minutes.
It also marked the first time that a player won both the French Open and Wimbledon back to back since Bjorn Borg in 1980.
He was also the first Spaniard to win the men’s singles title since Manuel Santana in 1966.
On his first tournament win, Nadal bit his trophy. He has continued to do this, citing that it is his “brand mark.”
