Bobby Flay’s Grill It

“Bobby Flay’s Grill It!” by Bobby Flay With Stephanie Banyas and Sally Jackson (Clarkson Potter/Publishers; $35). This is the seventh book for restaurateur/chef/Food Network show host, who’s become known as America’s grillmaster.

He aims for fresh, fun and flavorful grill food to expand your repertoire in the more than 150 recipes organized in chapters by the main ingredient such as asparagus, beef, chicken, corn, fruit, mushrooms, potatoes, scallops, tuna - many pictured in glorious color.

“Firing up the grill makes every-night dinners with family or simple get-togethers with friends feel like a party or some sort of celebration.” Although Flay prefers the ease and consistency of gas grills (as opposed to charcoal) he likes to add flavor - spice rubs and glazes - to food while it’s grilling - and vinaigrettes or salsas to finished items.

Marvel Comics Buries Captain America

Published Thursday July 5th, 2007

Appeared on page B7

It’s a funeral fit for a superhero.

In the drizzling rain at Arlington National Cemetery, thousands of grieving patriots solemnly watch as the pallbearers — Iron Man, the Black Panther, Ben Grimm and Ms. Marvel — carry a casket draped with an American flag.

Yes, folks, Captain America is dead and buried in the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ “Fallen Son,” due on newsstands today. After 66 years of battling villains from Adolf Hitler to the Red Skull, the red, white and blue leader of the Avengers was felled by an assassin’s bullet on the steps of a New York federal courthouse. - Canada East

X-Men #200

Click image to enlarge. The cover art is amazing!

There’s been a lot of talk about X-Men #200. Marvel actually had to reprint the issue because of the high demand! I haven’t picked up a book in awhile, but I need to get this just to see what the buzz is all about. I believe Rogue is in deep trouble in this issue!

Summary: One of the most popular X-Men of all time—the mysterious mutant called Gambit—is back with some old friends…and they’re going to destroy the X-Men! In the x-tra sized X-Men #200, Gambit has returned with the Marauders, the same team he once led on a vicious slaughter through the Morlock tunnels, committing horrible atrocities against mutantkind.

‘Watching Baseball Smarter: A Professional Fan’s Guide for Beginners, Semi-experts, and Deeply Serious Geeks’

Hample covers basics like what to watch for in pitchers, catchers, hitters, fielders and base runners; he also provides answers to such nagging questions as why spectators stretch in the seventh inning and why most ballplayers grab their crotches. He explains the difference between a change-up and a split-finger fastball, breaks down a box score and offers an extensive glossary of baseball slang that defines both a “courtesy trot” and a “dying quail.”

Kurt Vonnegut Dies at 84

Kurt Vonnegut dies at 84
‘Kurt Vonnegut, whose dark comic talent and urgent moral vision in novels like “Slaughterhouse-Five,” “Cat’s Cradle” and “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” caught the temper of his times and the imagination of a generation, died Wednesday night in Manhattan. He was 84 and had homes in Manhattan and in Sagaponack on Long Island.’

Here’s a list of reviews of Vonnegut’s books.

Warners forges ‘Metal Men’

Mining for new projects, Warner Bros. Pictures is hoping to strike gold with the robotic superhero team “Metal Men,” setting up the project with producer Lauren Shuler Donner. Eric Champnella has been brought on board to write.

Based on a DC Comics hero created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962, “Metal” revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers associated with their respective metals — gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum. Instead of having to be programd, the Metal Men can think for themselves, which is both their genius and their biggest flaw. - Hollywood Reporter

I’ve never heard of this comic book before, but seems like a cool premise. It’s like a bunch of CP-3O’s with superpowers. I’m not sure if its going to be animated or not, but it just seems better suited as animated.

‘Angels & Demons’

“Yesterday we shared the news that the “Da Vinci Code” prequel was being discussed, and today comes word that screenwriter Akiva Goldsman will definitely be returning. (We can only hope he read some of the “Da Vinci” reviews.) No word yet on Ron Howard or Tom Hanks, but you just know they’ll be back. Well, Hanks, anyway.

In “Angels,” Langdon’s character tries to solve a murder and unravel a plot by an ancient group, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican during a papal conclave. Sony acquired the feature rights to “Angels” as part of its 2003 deal with Brown for “The Da Vinci Code.” - Rottentomatoes

Philippine Official Says Ban ‘Da Vinci Code’

The Philippine government should ban the controversial movie “The Da Vinci Code,” a senior official in the mainly Catholic country said on Wednesday, describing the religious thriller as blasphemous.

The film, based on the best-selling fiction novel of the same title, is due to open in Manila’s cinemas next week.

“I think we should do everything not to allow it to be shown,” said Eduardo Ermita, executive secretary to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, expressing his personal opinion as a “devout Catholic.”

If they ban the ‘Da Vinci Code’, then they should ban those naughty Barrel Men! Haha!

Sheffield Used Testosterone, HGH

Barry Bonds isn’t the only player accused of doping in “Game of Shadows”, the book written by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters, ESPN reported.

According to the book, Yankees slugger Gary Sheffield injected testosterone and human growth hormone in January 2002.

Excerpts from the book appeared in Sports Illustrated, offering evidence of Bonds’ use of performance-enhancing drugs. Bonds was allegedly supplied by trainer Greg Anderson, who dealt with BALCO and its founder Victor Conte, according to the book. - MSNBC

No one should be surprised. The book comes out today!
